Budyonovka (official names - winter headdress, winter helmet or just a helmet) - a uniform headdress of soldiers of the Workers and Peasants Red Army (RKKA), a cloth helmet with a visor and folding sides, covering the ears and neck in the lowered form 

The Budyonovka was designed for the cold season (although from April 1919 to February 1922 it was considered to be an all-season headdress). Its folded twice, bent upward and fastened on two buttons on the sides of the cap could be lowered and fastened on two buttons under the chin, covering the ears and neck. On the front was sewn cloth five-pointed star in color by the kind of troops. Infantry - crimson, cavalry - blue, artillery - orange (since February 1922 - black), engineers - black, armored forces (future armored forces) - red (since February 1922 - black), aviators - blue, border guards - green, convoy guards (since February 1922) - blue. 

Until February 1922 the stars were to be encircled (3 mm from the edge) with a black (and for black stars red) strip 5-6 mm wide. On the cloth star was attached the cockade of the Red Army - a copper red star.
